From Davenne Essif: I am using the Joyful Mamas' website to host a community fundraiser for UNC Children's Hospital. Many patient rooms are in great need of new chairs. Parents use these chairs as well as hospital staff when they are called upon to stay with a sick child or baby. And since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, in-room comfort has become even more essential to parents' and children's well-being. Important new hospital regulations limit visitors to one at a time and keep patients and visitors primarily confined to their rooms, adding new challenges for parents at the hospital.

The Story:
Over the summer of 2020, our 2-month-old son Cailan was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which led us to three separate stays at UNC Children's Hospital.
I cannot say enough how positive our experience was with all the caregivers!
But I struggled a great deal with the glider chair in our first room.
Over the course of our 5-day stay, I spent countless hours in that chair, nursing, and comforting our little guy. Yet most of that time was spent stiff and motionless because the bumping and creaking were so disruptive to Cailan's already broken sleep.
The nurses and nursing assistants understood my frustration
and said that they have been asking for new chairs,
but the budget has been stretched thin as a result of COVID-19.
I realized that I wasn't the only one affected by this chair.
So many people--patients, parents, nursing staff, and more--use these chairs
and, ideally, find comfort in them.
So let's help!

The initial proposed budget for replacing chairs on Floor 6 (the floor with the most need) was $6,500.
That is our goal.
There are two ways to make your tax-deductible donation:
1) A monetary gift made directly to UNC Children's,
2) By "purchasing" an artwork below created by Davenne Essif, Debbie Essif, Linda Johnsen, Ewan Toscano,
Lilly Chavez-Johnson (age 10), or Sofia Chavez-Johnsen (age 7).
Any donation small or large will go a long way toward
making parents and children more comfortable during their stay(s) at the hospital.
